Zero Cow Factory, a biotechnology firm raised ₹32 crore in a seed round
Zero Cow Factory, a biotechnology firm that uses bioengineered microorganisms and precision fermentation to produce animal-free protein and dairy products, has raised $4 million (₹32 crore) in a seed round.
Green Frontier Capital, GVFL, and pi Ventures co-led the round, with participation from Pascual Innoventures, the investment arm of the Spanish dairy firm Calidad Pascual. Zero Cow Factory will be able to expedite its R&D activities, scale up production capacity, and gain regulatory licenses to enter the market with this cash.
Sohil Kapadia and Parini Kapadia started Surat-based Zero Cow Factory in 2021 with the goal of revolutionizing the dairy business by creating sustainable animal-free milk proteins and dairy products. Their product is a new alternative to cow’s milk protein that has the same flavor, texture, nutrient profile, and look as cow’s milk protein.
‘We are pleased to collaborate with our investors’ exceptional setup and combine them with our skilled team, which uniquely positions us to lead the way in developing an animal-free, sustainable, and scalable global dairy 3.0,’ stated Sohil Kapadia, Co-founder and CEO of Zero Cow Factory.
The business has created a proprietary process for producing dairy proteins such as casein and whey without the need of animals. Zero Cow Factory focuses on animal-free casein production, which is a complicated protein that has yet to be commercialized globally. According to the company, its first product is A2 Beta-casein, which is also healthier because A1 milk protein, which causes indigestion, is absent from their product.
It intends to be the first firm to receive global regulatory approval for this protein. This will be utilized to create various sustainable food and dairy products such as cheese, yogurt, ice cream, supplement powder, and so on, which will be employed in industries such as food, dairy, CPG, nutraceutical, and dietary supplements.
