NDDB-MRIDA launched dung slurry manure management across the country.

Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, launched NDDB MRIDA Limited on Monday, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the National Dairy Development Board that would focus on manure management programs across the country.

The NDDB has incorporated NDDB MRIDA, an unlisted Public Limited Company under the Companies Act, with a paid-up capital of 9.50 crore, with the approval of the Centre, according to an official release.

Rupala stated that NDDB Mrida Ltd will provide dairy farmers with additional money through the selling of slurry/dung. Farmers would be able to save money by substituting cooking fuel with biogas, he noted. Rupala expressed hope that the new corporation will offer formal impetus to manure management activities, notwithstanding the fact that diverse attempts for improved utilization of bovine excrement are primarily individual projects.

According to Rupala, encouraging the use of dung-based manure would gradually lead to the substitution of chemical fertilizers with organic manure, lowering India’s reliance on fertilizer imports.

Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, stated that this is a first-of-its-kind enterprise focused on effective dung utilization by developing a manure management value chain that would help to improve dairy farmers’ livelihoods.

Initiatives for manure management

The Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy, L Murugan,  says that the manure management initiatives have the capacity to generate biogas equivalent to 50% of India’s current LPG consumption and bio-slurry equivalent to 44% of India’s NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium) requirement.
