Vegetable prices in national capital (Delhi) have slipped down to normal levels after a surge blockage on highways by protesting farmers. Farmers and transporters have found out different routes, helping supplies resume to regular operation, stated, a member of Delhi’s Azadpur mandi.
“Though there was an increase in prices of peas, potato and beans on Friday-Saturday are now stable, due to regular supplies from other neighboring states. The winter vegetables crops such as spinach, fenugreek, carrot and cabbage inflow into market is high as the harvest is at high swing. Hence, prices have not risen yet. We are anticipating prices to fall once the protest is withdrawn or the roads are cleared,” stated Malhotra, a member of Delhi’s Azadpur mandi.

Pradipta Sahoo, an enterprise head of Safal, Mother Dairy Fruits & Vegetables, mentioned that “Initially, on first two days of the road blockage potatoes prices had gone up by 5 per cent, but with the arrival of trucks from neighboring states in the market yard on Tuesday the prices have fallen back normal to the previous rates of ₹42-45 per kg.”
Sahoo additionally stated that the arrival of potatoes from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat was in sufficient quantity, hence, not affecting potato and vegetable availability in National Capital Region (NCR). Safal, the largest retail chain of fresh fruits and vegetables in Delhi sells 160 tonnes of vegetables and fruit per day in NCR on average from its 330 shops.
