Telangana CM KCR promises ₹10,000 compensation for crops loss.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has promised a compensation of ₹10,000 per acre for farmers whose crops were lost or damaged by the hailstorm and torrential rains that hit the state last week. He set aside ₹228 crore for this purpose.

According to earlier estimates, crops on 90,000 hectares was damaged. This includes 52,000 hectares of corn and 30,000 hectares of paddy that were damaged earlier this week by strong rains and hail.

‘Not even a single rupee from the Centre’

The Chief Minister made the declaration during a visit to the hailstorm-ravaged districts of Khammam, Warangal, Mahabubabad, and Karimnagar.

The Chief Minister toured the devastated areas and chatted with farmers, accompanied by Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, and a few other ministers and officials.

‘We will also give assistance to tenant farmers,’ the CM stated.

As an indirect reference to accusations that the State government’s failure to join the Centre’s agricultural insurance plan proved costly, the Chief Minister claimed that agricultural insurance policies benefited insurance corporations rather than farmers. ‘The country requires a comprehensive agricultural programme.’ ‘Despite the fact that we submitted multiple reports on natural disaster losses, the Central has not sanctioned even a single rupee,’ he claimed.

Allegations of the opposition

Farmers and opposition groups, on the other hand, claim that crops covering two lakh hectares were devastated. Also Read | Govt to compensate Dharwad farmers facing crop loss due to heavy rain.
