NDDB promotes its executive director Meenesh C Shah to managing director
The current acting chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Meenesh C Shah, whose term ends on November 30, has been appointed from executive director to managing director by the Board of Directors, of which Shah is a member.
There is no criminality
After Dilip Rath was appointed Chairman of the NDDB in 2016, the position of managing director became vacant. Rath, an IAS official of West Bengal cadre, joined the NDDB as MD in 2011 after leaving the service prematurely, according to reports. ‘There is nothing illegal about the promotion.’ However, it is unusual because Shah is the Chairman and, as such, a member of the Board of Directors,’ noted a former NDDB officer. The minutes of the Board meeting at which the promotion was granted will clarify Shah’s position, he said.
Until this article was published, emails and messages sent to Shah and Varsha Joshi, an additional Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and also a Director on the NDDB Board, received no response.
Shah was ‘appointed in the next higher grade on promotion as managing director with effect from November 15,’ according to an office circular published on November 16 by NDDB’s senior general manager (HRD & Admin) and distributed to all offices of the agency.

The Centre announced in August that Shah’s tenure as Chairman will be extended by six months until November 30. It went into effect on June 1. The position of full-time Chairman of the NDDB has been vacant since December 2020, when Rath stepped down. Shah has been the president since June 1, 2021.
