Himachal will certify 1.5 lakh natural farmers under PK3Y in FY24
In Himachal Pradesh, approximately 1.5 lakh farmers practicing natural farming will be certified under the Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana (PK3Y) in 2023-24. According to a study, 28% of farmers have adopted natural farming techniques on their own through peer-to-peer learning without any training, and the focus of PK3Y this fiscal year will be consolidation of farmers practicing natural farming, according to Agriculture Secretary Rakesh Kanwar.
During a meeting of agriculture department officers to discuss the state’s cluster-based agriculture development program, he stated that efforts would be made in 2023-24 to certify approximately 1.5 lakh farmers practicing natural farming, according to a statement issued here on Friday.
He stated that the emphasis should be on consolidating existing farmers, expanding their natural farming area, conducting refresher workshops, capacity building training, and exposure visits.
The response and success of natural farming techniques on the ground show that everyone is convinced that they are beneficial, and ‘we just need to take the practice further for overall benefits in agriculture,’ he added.
Kanwar told department officers to find clusters, put problems in order of importance, and make a budget for each cluster based on its needs.
Naresh Thakur, State Project Director at PK3Y, stated that the organization met its objectives in 2022-23. He stated that over 51,000 farmers have been certified under PK3Y for natural produce, and that the state’s natural farming model villages will be strengthened.
