HDFC Bank to Bring Solar Power to 1,000+ Villages by 2025 Under ‘Parivartan’ Initiative
HDFC Bank has announced that, by 2025, it will help bring clean and renewable energy to over 1,000 villages across India as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) programme called ‘Parivartan’. This project aims to support rural and semi-urban communities by providing solar-powered infrastructure, raising awareness, and building partnerships at the local level.
So far, more than 61,655 solar street lights have been installed across 22 states. Other solar projects include:
-
Portable solar pumps to help farmers with irrigation
-
Solar-powered water supply systems
-
Solar-powered food processing units that help boost the local economy
Promoting Solar Awareness Through ‘Solar Shiksha’
One of the key challenges in adopting solar energy is the lack of awareness and the presence of myths and misunderstandings. To address this, HDFC Bank launched the ‘Solar Shiksha’ initiative. It provides:
-
Education and live demonstrations on using solar energy
-
Information on government schemes and subsidies that support solar adoption
Over 90 Awareness Workshops Held
The programme has already conducted over 90 awareness workshops in states like Goa, Karnataka, Haryana, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh. These sessions reach out to schools, hospitals, orphanages, farming groups, and old-age homes—places where solar power can significantly improve people’s lives.
Leadership Speaks
Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director at HDFC Bank, said:
“We believe that true sustainability comes from inclusive development. Through our solar initiatives under Parivartan, we aim to make a real difference—lighting up homes and streets and creating new opportunities. We’re focusing on raising awareness, encouraging innovation, and giving communities ownership of these projects. On Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to expanding such efforts across the country.”
Nusrat Pathan, Head of CSR at HDFC Bank, added:
“Making solar energy accessible goes beyond just installing equipment. Our goal is to build a system where communities have the knowledge and tools to manage their own clean energy needs for the long term.”
