The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that his Government would spend ₹10,000 crore on constructing new agri produce godowns, processing centres and Janata Bazars. The projected cost is about ₹2,900 crore to set up 25 food processing units, one in every district across the state.
The godowns can directly be linked to the Rythu Bharosa Kendrams (a one-stop-shop for farmers). “We will also promote primary and secondary agri products processing centers in villages. Janata Bazaars would come up in towns and cities,” Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has stated.
The Chief Minister asked the concerned department officials to gather Parliamentary Constituency-wise details of the cropping pattern and put together an action plan to set up processing units so as to add value to the crops grown in the region.
Further, he asked the Agriculture Department to make sure supply of raw materials to feed the processing centres. He stated that his Government committed to assist the processing units and find marketplace for the value-added produce.
Officials had been directed to prepare an action plan for establishing the processing units models and identify the places to set them up.
He also stated that the govt already started announcing the minimum support prices (MSP) for various crops grown across the states well ahead of the beginning of the season. He also ensured that If the farmers fail to get MSP, the govt will buy the produce.
He expressed that there is need of a separate wing to concentrate on creating and developing new science and technologies for processing and packaging the final farm produces.
