Yara India, a subsidiary of global crop nutrition company Yara International, has successfully completed another batch of its Capacity Building Programme, aimed at empowering micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—with a special focus on youth and women-led businesses.
The programme, launched in 2022, is now evolving into the Grow X platform, which helps MSMEs build leadership and business management skills while tackling key challenges such as limited access to finance, knowledge, and skilled talent. Inspired by MBA-style training, the 15-week course is designed to boost entrepreneurial capabilities among rural participants.
One of the standout features of the initiative is Yara’s “Plus One” model, which encourages the participation of women and young family members of the company’s channel partners. This model helps break cultural and gender-based barriers by offering training opportunities within trusted networks.
Strong Focus on Women Empowerment
Out of the 196 women who graduated from the recent batch, 96 were family members of Yara’s channel partners—wives, daughters, sisters, or mothers. Another 100 participants were local women and girls from the Babrala plant community, many of whom are members of self-help groups (SHGs). This highlights Yara’s commitment to grassroots empowerment and inclusive growth in rural areas.
A Step Towards Inclusive Agriculture
Sanjiv Kanwar, Managing Director of Yara South Asia, said:
“At Yara, we believe that real change in agriculture must be inclusive. This programme is about unlocking the potential of rural women and youth to become changemakers in their communities. Their achievements reflect our belief that empowering one farmer or one family can lead to a stronger, more sustainable agricultural ecosystem. This aligns with the government’s efforts to uplift women in agriculture, including initiatives supporting women SHGs and improving access to technology and market linkages under PM Modi’s leadership.”
Government-Recognised Certification
A major milestone for the programme is its certification by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and the Management & Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC). This government-recognised accreditation enhances the credibility and employability of the graduates, helping them unlock new career and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Through initiatives like this, Yara India continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to building a more inclusive, skilled, and self-reliant rural economy. Also Read |‘Akka Café and Canteen’ to create employment opportunities for women
