RSS affiliate BKS demands to increase PM-Kisan incentive of ₹6,000/yr

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), a farmers’ group that is part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has asked for ‘profitable prices’ for crops, the end of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on all agricultural inputs, and a reversal of the decision to allow genetically modified mustard (GM mustard).

It has also asked for a PM-Kisan incentive of ₹ 6,000 per year, tied to inflation, and paid out in three equal parts.

Mohini Mohan Mishra, who is the General Secretary of the BKS, said that these demands will be made at a protest rally in Delhi on December 19 in which farmers from 600 districts will take part.

Farmers lose money when prices aren’t clear, and it’s hard for them to choose the right crops and make good investments in their farms when prices aren’t clear.

Mishra told the media that, unlike other protests, farmers would pay for their own costs and even buy food at the protest site. This would show that the farmers want to tell the government what they want.

He also said that since the PM-Kisan benefit was sent through DBT every month, it should be linked to an increase in the cost of inputs. At the same time, he said, the fertilizer subsidy should be sent directly to the bank accounts of farmers instead of paying a huge amount to companies.

He said that the export-import policy was bad for farmers, so he wanted a clear policy that said agri-exports couldn’t be stopped when farmers got better prices, and imports couldn’t be cheaper than the prices in the country.
