Ready-to-eat, Ready-to-serve fish products, a joint venture by CIFT & Kings Infra

Kings Infra & CIFT team up to create ready-to-eat, ready-to-serve fish products

Kings Infra & CIFT team up to create ready-to-eat, ready-to-serve fish products.

Kings Infra Ventures Ltd has collaborated with the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) to create ready-to-eat and ready-to-serve fish products using steam or water immersion technology. The project will have a lengthy shelf life at normal room temperature without the use of any chemical additions or preservatives.

The project’s focus will be on safe food products with very extended shelf lives under ambient storage conditions, in conformity with the requirements of the US FDA and other regulatory bodies.

According to Shaji Baby John, Chairman and Managing Director of Kings Infra, the unique project would also help in offering a chance for optimizing the ingredients, processing, and heating conditions of region-specific cultural dishes.

The key advantage of the initiative is the elimination of the necessity for particular storage temperatures. He stated that the ready-to-eat/serve delicacies will be packaged in metal cans or reportable pouches.

“We have developed numerous such new technologies that potentially work as catalysts for enhancing value creation in the seafood business,” stated CIFT Director Leena Edwin.

Chitin/Chitosan making

The two companies will also work together on a project to develop a modified method of producing Chitin and Chitosan from shrimp shells and shrimps, which are often discarded as waste. CIFT’s modified technique employs a specially constructed machine to reduce chemical usage in the production of Chitin/Chitosan.

The approach contributes to higher chitin and chitosan quality at a lower cost. Chemical usage is reduced, which reduces the cost of effluent treatment. According to the CIFT experts, the isolated protein can be used for a variety of goods.

The company will begin commercial manufacturing of ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat fisheries products as part of this endeavor.

There are also plans to start converting shrimp heads, shells, and other remnants into value-added goods with a wide range of applications.  Also Read | Suspension of subsidies for fishermen through WTO agreement will affect millions of fishers.
