Agri Events Exhibition Export Mangoes

‘King of Fruits’ showcased in US at Flavors of ‘Indian Mangoes Event’

Mango King of Fruits

Seattle recently had the opportunity to experience the exquisite taste of Indian mangoes at a special event designed to promote wider availability of these premium fruits in the Pacific Northwest.

The Consulate General of India in Seattle, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), hosted “Flavors of Indian Mangoes” on Thursday. This event was a key part of the Consulate’s efforts to boost trade and increase market access for Indian products.

A highlight of the evening was a mango-tasting experience, featuring five distinct and highly prized Indian varieties: Dussehri, Chausa, Langra, Mallika, and Totapuri. Leading importers and select media from Seattle were invited to savor these diverse flavors.

Distinguished guests, including Washington State Attorney General Nick Brown, Senator Manka Dhingra, and Seattle Port Commissioner Sam Cho, were in attendance. The Consulate reported that these dignitaries “savoured each of the five mango varieties and appreciated their distinctive aroma, texture and sweetness.”

The event underscored the growing popularity of Indian mangoes in the U.S. In 2024, exports of Indian mangoes to the U.S. saw a 19% increase, solidifying the U.S. as a crucial export market.

Industry experts also gave presentations, highlighting how mangoes, often called “The King of Fruits,” are deeply ingrained in Indian culture and represent a unique shared family experience.

More Mango Mania in Redmond

Another Indian Food Festival and Mango Promotion event was held in Redmond on July 9, featuring a separate mango tasting session. This event welcomed Washington State Representative Alex Ybarra and prominent members of the Indian American community and media.

On the sidelines of these events, exporters of Indian mangoes also met with U.S. retail representatives. These discussions aimed to explore opportunities for making premium Indian mangoes more widely available across the U.S. Pacific Northwest region.
