Coffee Export

India’s Coffee Exports Rise 19% in Q1 FY25 to $616 Million

coffee export increases

India’s coffee exports during the June quarter rose by 19% in value to about $616 million, even though the volume fell by 18% due to higher prices. In the same period last year, the value of coffee shipments was $517 million.

According to the Coffee Board’s latest data, the shipment volume for the June quarter, based on permits issued, was 1.03 lakh tonnes, down from 1.27 lakh tonnes in the same quarter last year.

Because of high prices, overseas buyers are expected to switch to purchasing only when needed, leading to a slowdown in volumes. Coffee prices have remained high in the past couple of years due to supply issues in major producing countries like Brazil and Vietnam.

In rupee terms, coffee shipments during the June quarter were valued at ₹5,273 crore, up 22% from ₹4,315 crore a year earlier. Also Read | Kodagu’s Hangal Coffee Exporting implements TRST01’s EUDR-compliant solution

49% increase in unit value

The average unit value realized during the quarter was ₹5.07 lakh per tonne, an increase of 49% from ₹3.39 lakh per tonne in the same period last year.

In the first six months of calendar year 2025, coffee shipments reached $1,166 million, up 26% compared to $924 million a year ago. However, volumes declined to 2.06 lakh tonnes from 2.43 lakh tonnes last year. The rupee value of shipments rose by 30% to ₹10,042 crore, up from ₹7,697 crore in the previous year.

Italy remains the top buyer

Italy continued to be the largest buyer, purchasing around 33,823 tonnes, followed by Germany with 17,468 tonnes, and Belgium with 15,615 tonnes. The Russian Federation bought 12,713 tonnes, and Türkiye imported 8,759 tonnes, making them among the top five destinations for Indian coffee in the first half of 2025.

India, the world’s seventh-largest coffee producer, is the fifth-largest coffee exporter. Over two-thirds of the 3.6 lakh tonnes of coffee produced annually in the country are exported.
