The Indian Institute of Spices Research (IISR), Kozhikode, celebrated International Women’s Day on Monday with the theme ‘Women leadership in agriculture: entrepreneurship, equity and empowerment.’
Focusing on women in the agriculture sector and incubation support available to ICAR institutions, IISR urged more women to take up agribusiness.
Sudha Mysore, CEO of Agri Innovative, highlighted the importance of women in agriculture and allied sectors by highlighting the roles played by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Kerala Health Minister K K. Shailaja Teacher during the time of the Covide-19.

She also emphasised the selecting the most suitable path to become a successful female entrepreneur. Many do not succeed in agri startups as they first try to innovate their way before starting a business. But ICAR institutions provide incubation assistance where tested and successful technologies are granted licencing fees to entrepreneurs, she said.
This model, under which entrepreneurs can make use of institute facilities and marketing support, is very successful, she stated. Women can depend on this kind of support across 100 ICAR institutes, she said.
