Central Govt minister of Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will launch a weather-based crop insurance scheme for Western Ghats cardamom producers on Saturday.
The initiative will be launched by the Minister in conjunction with the Spices Board’s Coral Jubilee festivities, which will last for a fortnight beginning Saturday. Later, the Minister will review the initiative with growers and exporters.
Spices Board to launch cloud e-auction platform for Cardamom stakeholders
Officials from the Spices Board stated that Idukki will be prioritized for the Weather-Based Insurance plan. The plan will include around 2,500 hectares of cardamom farmed land, and small-scale farmers in the district will profit from the trial scheme between 2021 and 2026.
The special speech will be delivered by BVR Subramanyam, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry. The presidential speech will be delivered by AG Thankappan, Chairman of the Spices Board, in the presence of D Sathiyan, Secretary of the Spices Board, and Malaai Kumar Poddar, Managing Director and Chairman of the Agricultural Insurance Company.

On March 4, a virtual international buyer-seller meeting will be held in partnership with the Indian Embassy in Japan to enhance spice exports via the Spice Xchange India platform.
