The government is creating unique ID cards for farmers for digitalizing the documentation process
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed Parliament on Tuesday that the central government is in the process of creating unique identification (ID) cards for farmers who have taken advantage of various agricultural schemes.

Benefits of unique ID
Emphasizing the benefits of this initiative of creating a unique ID and its benefits for farming community, the Agri minister stated that it would help in provisioning the farmer’s verification through e-Know Your Farmer (e-KYF), eliminating the need for the farmer to re-submit their physical documents to different departments in order to avail benefits under various schemes.
It will also provide access to field-based and customized advisories, as well as make accessing crop damage caused by extreme weather conditions easier, he said.
He added that as of December 9, the government had a database of 11.64 crore farmers registered under the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme.
