The government has launched a new portal called Krishi Nivesh to bring all agriculture-related investment schemes from both central and state governments under one platform. The portal was officially launched in September 2024, and the Agriculture Ministry shared details about its concept and features on May 29.
What is Krishi Nivesh?
Krishi Nivesh is a single-window platform where users can find and apply for different government schemes that support investment in the agriculture sector. It is meant to help farmers, agri-businesses, and investors by giving them easy access to information and making the application process smooth and transparent.
Current Status
So far, the portal includes schemes from seven central ministries:
-
Agriculture & Farmers Welfare
-
Food Processing Industries
-
Rural Development
-
New and Renewable Energy
-
Jal Shakti
-
Chemicals & Fertilisers
-
Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying
Other ministries such as Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Cooperation, Panchayati Raj, Commerce, and the Development of North Eastern Region are expected to join soon.
However, state governments have not yet joined the portal. The Agriculture Ministry has requested all states and concerned ministries to share details of their schemes and programs that support investment in agriculture and allied sectors, so they can be added to the portal as well.
Features of the Portal
According to the ministry, the Krishi Nivesh portal is:
-
Open source, using open standards, and interoperable
-
Powered by Business Intelligence (BI), Analytics, and AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning)
-
Designed to provide real-time updates and help users track application status
-
Able to categorise opportunities based on geography and scheme type
-
Equipped to accept Digital Project Reports (DPRs)
Why It Matters?
Officials say this portal will transform the agriculture sector by:
-
Centralising investment opportunities and information
-
Making the process more transparent and efficient
-
Helping farmers and investors choose the most suitable schemes
-
Boosting private investment, improving productivity, and strengthening agricultural infrastructure
Sunil Kumar, Assistant Commissioner in the Agriculture Ministry, said, “We have tried to simplify the process so that users can easily understand and select the best scheme. Regular sharing and updating of information is key to the success of this portal.”
The goal is to modernise Indian agriculture by using technology, encouraging innovation, and increasing private sector participation.
