CTC dust prices rise at Kochi auctions due to demand from packeteers
This week, strong demand, particularly from packeteers, drove up CTC dust prices at Kochi auctions. Of the total 7,90,904 kg on offer, 96% were sold.
The market in sale 30 increased by ₹1 to ₹2 as the sale progressed and appreciated further, especially near the end. According to auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, all blenders accounted for 65% of the total CTC quantity sold.The average price realisation increased by ₹1 to ₹140 from ₹139 last week.
However, traders are concerned about the ongoing heavy rains in the high ranges, which are expected to reduce crop arrivals to the auction platform in the coming weeks and may have an impact on prices.
Orthodox market mixed
Orthodox dust market was firm to dearer, with 100% sales out of the offered quantity of 8,000 kg. Exporters continue to be the main stakeholders.
Despite active participation from buyers from CIS and Middle Eastern countries, the Orthodox leaf market declined. Whole leaves and brokens were more expensive, while the rest were cheaper. The average price realisation decreased by ₹4 to ₹157. Buyers from the upcountry provided fair support. The total quantity offered was 3,52,532 kg, with a sales percentage of 85.
CTC leaf demand was strong, with a sales percentage of 81 out of the offered quantity of 50,000 kg. The market for brokens experienced a strong trend and increased in value.
