Onion traders in Nashik district have agreed to withdraw their boycott on onion auctions and restart business activities from Friday morning.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday asked urgently onion traders to withdraw the boycott agitation and assured that he would talk to the central government on onion stock limit issues. He also told traders and farmers that he is going to request the Center to increase the stock limits for his state.
Onion traders and farmers from Nashik district met Mr. Thackeray on Thursday evening to discuss about Centre’s decision to impose stock limits of 25 tonnes on wholesalers and 2 tonnes on retailers till December 31, 2020.
Traders have stopped auction activity from Monday and in response to this the farmers had demanded the government to intervene and ask traders to withdraw the boycott. The Lasalgaon APMC authorities said that the market will start functioning from Friday morning onwards.
