The lives of 12 lakh tea employees in Assam and West Bengal tea estates are expected to improve with finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman declaring a special package of ₹ 1,000 crore for them.
A more detailed coverage of welfare services relating to housing, education, sanitation, healthcare centers are required to be provided to the tea estate community, said the Indian Tea Association.

The announcement of extra physical and social infrastructure spending for the new Atma Nirbhar healthcare schemes and roads connectivity would have a positive effect on the tea workers’ productivity and health.
In states of Assam and West Bengal, most of the tea gardens are located in rural, far flung areas and struggle from many roadblocks in transportation. It is expected that the allocation of ₹ 3,400 crore for roadway infrastructure projects in Assam and ₹ 25,000 crore in West Bengal would accelerate road and infrastructure advancement, thus enabling faster communication between tea gardens and destination points.

It is proposed that the Pradhan Mantri Atma Nirbhar Swasthya Bharat Yojana, which will function with an allowance of ₹ 64,180 crore in addition to the existing National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), would be used to improve the ability of primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities as well as existing government institutions. In the next few years, this will go long way in improving the healthcare system in the country.
