Women farmers are the backbone of the Indian agriculture economy and, as per the government, their participation is crucial to making the sector self-reliant.
Two Union Ministers of State Shri Parshottam Rupala and Shri Kailash Choudhary addressing a virtual event organised by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) to celebrate the International Women’s Day on Monday, spoke regarding the participation of women and their contribution in all sectors, including agriculture.
Rupala highlighted the different types of schemes of the central government targeted at empowering women in every aspect of life, while Choudhary praised the contribution of women in farming and agriculture sector.
Choudhary highlighted ‘the role of women is crucial in achieving the objective of doubling the farmers’ incomes’, according to statement from ICAR.

Further, acknowledging that the women are the backbone of Indian agriculture sector, ICAR Director General, Trilochan Mohapatra, mentioned that women’s involvement and contributions are significant in helping the farming sector grow and flourish.
The Council is committed to building up women’s leadership in agriculture and farming sectors, he told.
Madhya Pradesh MLA Archana Chitnis emphasized the importance of making sure the nutritional security and quality education for women engaged in agriculture and allied sectors.
