20 projects valued ₹ 363.40 cr to create jobs and food processing capacity

Twenty projects benefiting from an investment of ₹ 363.40 crore supported by a grant of ₹ 102.81 crore under the Infrastructure Creation Scheme for the Agro processing Cluster (APC) and the Plan for the Creation and Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacity (CEFPPC) under pradhan mantri kisan sampada yojana (PMKSY) were approved by the Inter-Ministerial Approval Committee (IMAC).

Projects are likely to create job opportunities for almost 11,960 people and benefit 42,800 farmers.

‘Project proposals approved at the IMAC meeting are anticipated to increase the level of processing and value added of horticultural and agricultural products, which will increase farmers’ incomes and generate jobs at the local level,’ said Tomar.

Under the CEFPPC, 11 proposals with an overall project cost of ₹ 113.08 crore, which include aid grants of ₹ 36.30 crore, will be submitted to Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, Mizoram and Gujarat. The scheme sanctioned since 2017 promotes the processing and preservation of agro-food products and the modernisation and enhancement of food processing capacity.

This will help to increase the level of processing and increase the value, thereby reducing the waste of agro-products.

In addition, under the APC Infrastructure Creation Scheme, entrepreneurs will be encouraged to set up cluster-based food processing units. These nine proposals, with an overall project cost of ₹250.32 crore, which include ₹66.61 crore grants in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Rajasthan, were already approved.
