The first meeting of the MSP committee will have on August 22 to discuss future plan.

According to official sources, the committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) will have its first meeting on August 22 to consider future plans. According to the sources, the conference would begin at 10.30 a.m. at the National Agriculture Science Complex (NASC) in the nation’s capital.

According to reports, the committee will introduce members, deliberate on ‘future initiatives,’ and consider the formation of sub-panels to address the broad topics outlined in the terms of reference at the first meeting.

Meanwhile, the government is urging the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) to participate in the committee’s deliberations; it remains to be seen whether the SKM will change its position and designate three delegates, according to sources.

SKM, which was forced to form this committee after rallying farmers in a protest against three farm laws and forcing the government to abolish them, has already rejected it and chosen not to nominate its delegates.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to set up a committee to look into farmers’ MSP issues when he announced the repeal of three farm regulations in November last year.

The committee, led by former agricultural secretary Sanjay Agrawal, was formed on July 18 to ‘promote zero budget based farming, ‘modify’ crop patterns to meet the country’s changing demands, and make MSP more ‘efficient and transparent.’

There are 26 members on the committee, including the chairman, and three seats are reserved for SKM representatives.
