The meeting also rebuked the government for failing to hold a meeting for any discussions with the SKM, despite an open letter from the farmers urging them to discuss pending issues such as MSP laws and the withdrawal of draught amendments to the Electricity Act.

‘In a democracy, it is the responsibility of an elected government to talk to the protesting farmers and work out an amicable solution,’ the SKM said in a statement.

The meeting reiterated the demand that the Centre hold talks with the SKM on outstanding demands. The SKM will hold its next meeting on December 4 to discuss the Centre’s response and decide on the next steps.

‘The fight will continue until all demands are met,’ said the SKM. The SKM slammed the Centre’s attempts to avoid bilateral talks and sidestep critical issues.
