SBP demands Govt to permit exporting onion and tomatoes to Pakistan.

Shetkari Sanghatana’s political wing, Swatantra Bharat Party (SBP), has asked the union government to let them export onions and tomatoes to Pakistan. This is because crops were damaged by recent floods in Pakistan, making onions and tomatoes very high demand there.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Anil Ghanwat, President of SBP, said that it would be a big help for Indian farmers if the government let them export onions and tomatoes.

‘The crops in Pakistan have been damaged by heavy rains and floods. The price of onion has gone up to ₹400 per kg, and a kilogram of tomatoes now costs ₹500. There is a chance that the price will go up even more. The traders in Pakistan have already asked their government to let them import onions and tomatoes from India,’ Ghanwat said.

Situation of farmers

He also said that the prices of these goods in India are still very low, so farmers can’t cover the cost of producing them. Also Read | Wheat donated by Pakistan was rotten, inedible, whereas India’s of good quality: Taliban officials.

Farmers are putting tomatoes on the roads, SBP members said, and onions in chawls are getting ruined. Ghanwat also said that India used to buy onions and sugar from Pakistan to keep prices from going up in India. Now, if the government wants to help farmers, it needs to let them export.
