Dairy farmers in Gujarat will get a voice, literally, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates a community radio station (CRS) dedicated to animal husbandry — Dudh Vani — on Tuesday during his Gujarat tour. The Banas Dairy Community Radio station, established by the Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union or Banas Dairy, will connect over five lakh dairy farmers across 1,700 villages in the State.

This will be the country’s first community radio station devoted to cattle breeders. Also Read | Bengaluru-based Namdhari’s Group is expanding its dairy business next month.

Notably, the apex dairy development organization, National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has launched a bi-weekly podcast series dedicated to dairy farmers in collaboration with All India Radio. Banas Dairy’s dedicated radio station is the world’s first of its kind for dairy farmers in the world’s largest milk-producing country.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, ‘this Community Radio Station was established to provide farmers with key scientific information related to agriculture and animal husbandry.’

PM’s Gujarat tours

On Monday, April 18, Prime Minister Modi will begin a three-day visit to Gujarat. Since March 11, he has made two trips to his home state, which is in the midst of a presidential election. The Prime Minister will pay a visit to Gandhinagar’s Command and Control Centre for Schools on April 18. On Tuesday, he will lay the foundation stone for a number of projects at the Banas Dairy complex in the Banaskantha district of North Gujarat’s Diyodar Taluka.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate a potato processing plant built at a cost of over Rs 600 crore at the newly-commissioned greenfield dairy complex in Diyodar. The potato processing plant will make a variety of processed potato products, including french fries, potato chips, aloo Tikki, patties, and more, with many of them being exported to other countries.

‘These plants will help local farmers and boost the region’s rural economy,’ the PMO said in a statement. Also Read | SAP India and Amul announced combined rural community outreach program.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for four gobar gas plants with 100-tonne capacity in Khimana, Ratanpura – Bhildi, Radhanpur, and Thawar, as well as an organic manure and biogas plant in Dama, Gujarat, and expanded facilities for the production of cheese products and whey powder at the Banas dairy plant in Palanpur.

Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar during his visit to Gujarat. The next day, he will attend a tribal community gathering in Dahod and inaugurate the Global AYUSH Investment & Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar.
