Partnership with state govts to develop infrastructure to boost exports-APEDA
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), an arm of the Commerce Ministry, announced on Friday that it is focusing on developing infrastructure and clusters in partnership with state governments to encourage outbound exports.
Exports of agricultural and processed food items increased to $20,674 million (₹1,53,050 crore) in 2020-21, up from $17,321 million (₹83,484 crore) in 2011-12, according to the report.

It went on to say that non-basmati rice generated about one-fourth of overall exports in 2020-21. Then there was basmati rice and buffalo meat.
The top important importers
The leading non-basmati rice imports were Benin, Nepal, Bangladesh, Senegal, and Togo. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates were the top basmati rice export destinations in 2020-21.
The top importing countries for buffalo meat exports were Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Egypt, and Indonesia.
‘We continue to focus on establishing infrastructure for enhancing exports by focusing on clusters in conjunction with state governments while keeping the purpose of the Agriculture Export Policy, 2018 into consideration,’ M Angamuthu, Chairman of APEDA, said.
Basmati shipments to Iran expected to increase as it lifts seasonal ban
APEDA has been working with state governments to execute the Agriculture Export Policy. According to APEDA, states such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Punjab, Karnataka, and Rajasthan have completed the State-specific action plan for exports. In 2019, India’s contribution to global agricultural exports was 2.1%, up from 1.71% in 2010.
