Livestock sector set to take significant leap with implementation of NDLM

"NDLM will be the unique identification of all livestock-NDDB"

According to Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying Sanjeev Balyan, the livestock sector is set to take a significant leap following the implementation of the National Digital Livestock Mission (NDLM).

The Minister launched the mission’s blueprint on Thursday at the National Dairy Development Board NDDB headquarters in Anand, saying the mission’s goal is to create a farmer-centric, technology-enabled ecosystem where farmers can earn more money through livestock activities with the right information.

NDLM is a digital platform being developed collaboratively by DAHD and NDDB on the foundation of the existing Animal Productivity and Health Information Network (INAPH).

The union minister says that ‘The livestock industry has a unique combination of the backbone of rural livelihood.’ The growth would have been much better if there had been concerted efforts to harmonize programmes across the country in order to create an ecosystem conducive to the sector’s growth.’

Meenesh Shah, the Chairman of NDDB, the bedrock of NDLM will be the unique identification of all livestock.

‘Through this digital platform, farmers will be able to easily access markets regardless of their location or holdings. This system will also include strong animal breeding systems, nutrition, disease surveillance, disease control programmes, and a traceability mechanism for animals and animal products,’ Shah said.
