Integrated Organic Farming System model of IISR bag national award

The integrated farming system and natural agriculture packages launched by Indian Institute of Spices Research , Kerala is proving to be a profitable model among the many research, analysts and farming communities throughout the nation.

IISR has become the Best Centre of All India Network Programme on Organic Farming (AI-NPOF) under ICAR for 2020. This success has come all the way for its efforts in successfully implementing the organic farming techniques that are combined with latest organic package preparation and experimental farming.

The community mission on organic farming developed by Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research (ICAR-IIFSR) focuses on promoting natural cultivation of spice crops with the assistance of research institutes. IISR has been a part of the community mission on Organic Farming since 2012. As a part of the Integrated Organic Farming System (IFS), an integrated farm has been set up on the Chelavoor Campus of the institute.

According to the scientists of IISR, the integrated farm inter crops coconut trees with tapioca, turmeric,  cow pea, banana and fodder crops/grasses and likewise manage cattle to make sure the availability of cow dung as natural manure. IISR has arranged this farm as a model farm for small and marginal farmers who wish to generate a good earnings together with guaranteeing food crops for family use.

IISR generated a profit of ₹1.3 lakh from one acre integrated farm, scientists stated.
