Indian economy will transform if it can meet global demand for organic food; dairy plays a vital role.
Amit Shah, the Union Home, and Cooperation Minister stated on Sunday that the Indian economy will transform if it can meet global demand for organic food and that the dairy industry can help in achieving that goal.
‘The moment has arrived for India to shift to organic farming. India’s economy will be revolutionized if it is able to meet the global demand for organic food’ Shah made the remarks while speaking at the National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in Gandhinagar.
He went on to say that the dairy industry can help India achieve its goals in the sphere of organic farming. ‘Domesticating 2-3 cows in 30 acres of land can aid organic farming.’
The National Cooperative Dairy Federation of India (NCDFI), headquartered in Gujarat’s Anand district, is the umbrella organization for the cooperative dairy sector.
Federal dairy cooperatives from states and union territories are among its members. NCDFI’s primary goal is to facilitate the operation of dairy cooperatives through coordination, networking, and advocacy.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, ‘organic farming is currently being practiced on 38.09 lakh hectares in the country, including 6.19 lakh hectares under the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), 1.23 lakh hectares under the Namami Gange Programme, 4.09 lakh hectares under the BPKP (Natural Farming), and 26.57 lakh hectares under the National Program for Organic Production (NPOP).’

The government has promoted organic/natural farming in the North East region through dedicated programmes such as the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and Mission Organic Value Chain Development (MOVCDNER). Farmers receive Rs 31,000 in monetary help.
