India anticipated bountiful harvest 2021-22 with record grain output & commodities
According to the government’s second of four quarterly advance forecasts released on Wednesday, India is anticipated to have a bountiful harvest season 2021-22, with record grain output and greater production of numerous commodities important to low food inflation.
While releasing the advance estimates for 2021-22, the Union Agriculture Ministry stated that the overall output of many products, including rice, wheat, maize, and pulses, will reach record levels.

Foodgrain output is expected to reach a record 316.06 million tonnes, up 5.32 million tonnes from 2020-21. The overall grain output in 2021-22 has also climbed by a remarkable 25.35 million tonnes when compared to the preceding five years’ average production (2016-17 to 2020-21).
According to official data, acreage under ongoing rabi or winter-sown crops has increased for the third consecutive year, driven by record oilseeds, whose domestic output the government has sought to increase to reduce expensive imports, indicating the little impact of the third Covid wave on the farm sector.
Agriculture produces approximately 17 percent of the country’s GDP but employs over half of all Indians, making it a significant source of income. The industry is predicted to rise 3.9 percent in the current fiscal year, according to preliminary official forecasts.
According to the most recent government predictions, rice output is expected to be 127.93 million tonnes, while wheat production is expected to be 111.32 million tonnes. According to government forecasts, maize production will reach an all-time high of 32.42 million tonnes, equal to record gramme output predictions of 13.12 million tonnes.
According to the finance ministry’s latest monthly evaluation, released on Wednesday, agricultural and rural sectors remained resilient. Crop diversification, greater acreages, and liberal procurement at minimum support prices, in addition to cash transfers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM KISAN) plan, will boost the agriculture sector, according to the assessment.

Total oilseeds production in the country is expected to reach a record 37.15 million tonnes in 2021-22, up 1.20 million tonnes from the previous year’s output of 35.95 million tonnes.
After a year of farmer protests, the Union government repealed three farm-reform measures aimed at encouraging private investment in the industry in December 2021.
