ICAR-IISS bagged international award from FAO for “Soil Health Awareness”

India’s premier institute ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil Science Institute on Sunday stated that it has bagged the distinguished ‘International King Bhumibol World Soil Day Award’ from the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for elevating consciousness regarding significance of soil health amongst all farming fraternity.

ICAR in its press release stated that the award was conferred on the event of World Soil Day, celebrated on December 5, by way of a digital operate.

Awareness initiative

India bagged this honor for ICAR’s awareness initiative carried out in December 2019, involving participation of more than 13,000 folks via a social media campaign.

Princess of Thailand ‘Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’ will accord the award to ICAR in an official protocol to be held in Bangkok the capital city of Thailand in January 2021.

ICAR’s Awareness’ Campaign

ICAR stated it organised interactive classes in universities, awareness-raising actions in colleges, exhibitions, screenings, field visits and training periods, and reached out to all soil farming fraternity within the nation as a part of its awareness programme.

ICAR positioned specific emphasis on youth by elevating awareness about significance of soil for food safety and climate change mitigation by way of quizzes, debates and on-site demonstrations.
