Grape exporters ask govt to provide transparency on remission of Taxes

Grape exporters from Maharashtra States asked the government to provide more transparency on the Remission of Duties or Taxes on the Export Product (RoDTEP) which replaced the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS).

They say that exports will be significantly impacted as there is uncertainty about the correct support they will receive under RDTEP.

‘The government should immediately notify the refund policy under RODTEP in order to avoid misunderstanding and anxiety among grape growers. Even if grape exporters keep going to export without waiting for a government announcement, it is the grape growers who will suffer greatly,’ said Jagannath Khapre, President of All India Grape Exporter’s Association.

Khapre further added that farmers who cannot afford to export without subsidies will need to turn their goods into the domestic market.

The state of Maharashtra is the No 1 producer representing more than 81.22 percent of the output of total grapes and the country’s largest productivity hub.
