Govt reducing regulations even more in food processing industry: Patel

Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Prahlad Singh Patel said on Wednesday that the government is working to reduce regulations even more to help the food processing industry.

In his speech at the ‘14th FIcci Foodworld India: The Global Convention for Food Business and Industry,’ Patel talked about the need to improve the marketing and branding of the Indian food processing industry and its products.

‘The government is doing everything it can to help the industry and figure out how to fix the problems. We also need to make the existing schemes easier to use by getting rid of the bottlenecks. The industry will play a key role in this’ he said.

He said that the government is focusing on reducing regulations to help the industry and the sector. He said that the government has already set up more incubators to help the industry and encourage new ideas.

He said that the government is always taking steps to improve the food processing sector, such as putting in place a PLI scheme for the sector.

He also said that the government is taking steps to meet the demand for processed foods not only in the country but also around the world.

The Indian economy’s goal of reaching USD 5 trillion will depend on how well the food processing sector does.

‘Consumers need to have more faith in processed foods, and the government and industry need to work toward that goal,’ the minister said.

Siraj Hussain, who was the former secretary of the Indian Food Processing Industry and was there for Covid-19, said that the Indian food processing industry had a big part to play.

‘If we don’t support the primary food processing market, we won’t be able to connect the food processing industry directly to the farmers,’ he said.
