Govt permits ICRISAT conditional utilization of drones for agricultural research

NEW DELHI: The government authorities have stated that they’ve, in a primary, granted a crop research institute to make use of technology based drones for crop research and analysis.

The union government has mentioned in an announcement that the “Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have granted conditional exemption to the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) at Hyderabad, Telangana states India for the deployment of drones for agricultural research activities.”

This approval is a part of a much bigger endeavour of the Indian government to maximise use of drones to conduct varied jobs throughout the nation, particularly rural India.

“Drones are robust and capable to play a vital role in agriculture sector areas like precision agriculture, pest, disease control, and improvement in crop production, productivity. The Government of India is helping young entrepreneurs and encouraging researchers to look at robust low-cost drone solutions for the over 6.6 lakh villages across India,” Mr. Amber Dubey, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, was quoted during launch speach.

The conditional exemption grand is valid for six months from the date of issue of the letter or till the total operationalization of Digital Sky Platform (Phase-1), whichever is earlier.
