Govt buys Kharif-2020-21 Paddy grains at Minimum Support Price

In the ongoing kharif marketing season at Minimum Support Price (MSP), paddy procurement has so far risen by 22.5% to 368.7 lakh tonnes, worth at ₹ 69,612 crore.

The government continues to purchase Kharif 2020-21 crops at its MSP (minimum support price) from farmers in the ongoing Kharif marketing season (KMS) 2020-21. An official statement said on Friday.

In Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar, the paddy procurement for Kharif 2020-21 is continuing smoothly.

By December 10, the Indian Food Corporation and state agencies purchased 368.7 lakh tonnes of paddy against the purchase of 300.97 lakh tonnes in the same time last year.

The declaration said, ‘About 39.92 lakh farmers have already been benefited from the ongoing KMS procurement operations with MSP value of ₹ 69,611.81 crore.’

Punjab state alone has contributed 202,77 lakh tonnes out of the total purchase of 368,70 lakh tonnes, which is about 54.99 per cent of the total purchase.

Crop cotton (Kapas) procurement activities under MSP is continuing smoothly in multiple states. ‘A quantity of 45,53,977 cotton bales valuing ₹ 13,322.58 crore has been procured till December 10. And about  8,87,517 farmers got benefited.’ Said in an announcement.
