“Farming status” initiative for Chhattisgarh fisheries: CM Bhupesh Baghel

The heavily forested and waterfalls state, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has said that his government is committed to take initiative towards providing farming status to Pisciculture.

On the eve of  World Fisheries Day, on 21 November, The Chief Minister advised the pisciculture and the fishing community to focus more on scientific methods of fish farming and a good handling of sale of produce to improve fishers livelihood condition, a press release by the state public relations department mentioned.

The release also quoted Mr. Baghel as saying, that  “The state government will take necessary initiatives to give a status of farming to fisheries sector. In order to move the plan on pace, required directives have been issued to the officials.”

Benefits like agriculture, initiative of offering interest-free loans from cooperative banks for fisheries and rebate in farm electricity to the Nishad, Kenwat and Dhimar communities involved in fish farming will be taken, the CM  added.

“The fish farming community is been given aids  and subsidies in numerous central government schemes, but has not witnessed much improvement in their economic condition as expected. Adopting the scientific methods of fish farming and focus on good management of final products of sale are the necessary areas that needs attention” he said.

In addition, he further said that these initiatives will not only enhance their economic condition, but enable the state to emerge as one of the the top State in India in terms of fish production like rice production.

On the occasion, Mr. Baghel distributed fish selling 15 motorcycles and 2 autorickshaws  equipped with ice boxes to 15 fishermen and to two fishermen respectively, the statement mentioned.
