Farmers protest can go mass, if not met demand to repeal farm laws

Farmer leaders will inform the central government that their demand for repealing the controversial farm bill is non-negotiable and can intensify their protest if it doesn’t meet their demand.

This decision was the result of a two-hour-long meeting among the leaders of Samyukt Kisan Morcha, which is leading farmers’ protest around the national capital, Delhi. Their representatives who’re to meet the Union Ministers — Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal — for one more round of talks on Thursday would give this in writing.

Similarly, as a mark of protest, farmers in villages throughout the nation would burn effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chiefs of some of the top companies in the nation who the farmers think are the main beneficiaries of the ‘anti-farmer’ reforms.

Will lead mass protest

They additionally made it clear that the agitation of the farmers will proceed and, if need be, children, youngsters and older folks of their households would join them to put extra pressure on the union government.

Another important development on Thursday was that Bharatiya Kisan Union led by Naresh Tikait, which up to now has stayed away, joined the protests and even participated in the leaders’ meeting.

No turning back

In the talks held with the farmer leaders, the Ministers asked that the leaders to go through the Acts clause by clause to understand the differences. However, the farmer representatives rejected the idea saying that the Acts must be declare invalid as a whole.
