Eliminate the use of urea; natural farming is achievable with one cow on 21 acres: Amit Shah

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Monday urged farmers in Ahmedabad to embrace natural farming in order to eliminate the use of urea entirely within the next five years.

In terms of the detrimental consequences of urea, Shah claims that the fertilizer causes cancer in customers. Also Read | Natural farming brings twice the MSP in Indian & Global markets: Amit Shah.

‘Consumers get cancer from urea-fed wheat. This is bad for both them and the growers. Natural farming is achievable on 21 acres with one cow. And it has been demonstrated that the production is 1.25 times higher’ Shah addressed the farmers of rural Ahmedabad.

Natural farming is already practiced by over three lakh farmers in Gujarat.

Shah also encouraged farmers to visit farms that practice natural farming, learn from their practices and experiences, and reproduce on their own farms.

‘Let us bring natural farming to Ahmedabad in such a way that we don’t see a single bag of urea in this area in five years,’ Shah added.

In terms of farmer prospects, Shah suggested that a cooperative society be formed to market organic produce.

‘We will soon have a new multi-state cooperative society to facilitate farm commodity exports. The Amul-Model will be used for this.’

Shah also emphasized the importance of having standardized soil and product testing platforms for organic products. Also Read | PM Modi: balancing between both chemical and natural farming will continue.

There are currently no marketing or testing systems in place for such products. Shah noted that plans are being made to build similar platforms and offer organic products under the Amul brand.

Amit Shah is in Gujarat on a two-day visit to launch a number of development projects in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, the Minister’s parliamentary constituency. The state will go to the polls in approximately a month, with both the BJP and Congress preparing for the critical elections.
