CSIR-Aromatic Mission: farmers trained in growing & selling aromatic plants.
Farmers from several villages were trained on the growing and sale of aromatic plants on Monday at the community hall of Wungahon village, Yaingangpokpi, Imphal East district.
The training took place at a one-day awareness and training workshop on ‘Catalyzing Rural Empowerment via Cultivation, Processing, Value Addition, and Marketing of Aromatic Plants’ organised by the ‘Forever Mapithel Society (FMS).

Under the CSIR-Aromatic Mission Phase II, it was organised in association with the Council Scientific Research CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu.
The programme included 85 farmers from 14 villages: Chadong, Lungphu, Ramrei, Lamlai Khunou, Muirei, Leiyaram, Riha, Thoyee, Sikiphung, Leinganching, Nongdam (kuki), Kangkum, Wungahon, and Mayophong.
Jasha Momo H Anal, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, who participated in the programme as a resource scientist, launched the CSIR-Aroma Mission as part of the programme.
Sabha Jeet, Senior Scientist, Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA), CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, then gave a speech on ‘Captive Cultivations and Processing of Aromatic Plants/Crops.’
CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Senior Scientist, Plant Sciences and Agrotechnology Division (PSA), VP Rahul spoke on ‘Marketing of Aromatic Plants/Crops and Value Addition Initiatives-Essential Oils,’ while Francis AS Chipem, assistant professor department of Chemistry Manipur University, spoke on ‘Prospects of Aroma plants for Hills Farmers.’

Nepolean Shaiza, president of the Forever Mapithel Society in Kamjong district, thanked the farmers for participating in the programme. He also discussed the different issues that the farmers in the Kamjong area have been facing as a result of a lack of technical assistance from the relevant authorities.
