The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA), Pune, has started a program to help agri-tech start-ups as part of its objective to support and grow the agriculture industry in Maharashtra.

The program was inaugurated on Tuesday in the presence of Ajinkya Rahane, an Indian batsman with a deep interest in agriculture and start-ups. He would play an important role in this endeavour.

Some of the agri-tech start-ups will receive initial funding from Ajinkya Rahane and his partners. They will begin with a one crore fund. Their strategy is to encourage more such investors to participate and build the fund’s size over the next few months and years.

The MCCIA will assist in the selection of potential investee start-ups. They expect to make the first investment by the end of December 2022, followed by three more by the end of this fiscal year.

Regarding his interest in agriculture, Rahane recalled spending time on the farm with his grandmother and uncle, which let him realize the importance of agriculture and the responsibility of farmers. He stated that ‘farmers never retire, and every day is a new beginning for them.’
