On Friday, the Center said that there is enough urea and DAP for the current rabi season all over the country, putting to rest worries that there won’t be enough in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan. ‘According to media reports, there is a fertilizer shortage in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan. A statement from the Fertilizer Ministry says that these stories are not accurate.

It is said that the country has more than enough fertilizer to meet its needs during the current rabi (winter) season.

The central government sends fertilizer to all states as needed, and it’s up to each state’s government to make sure it’s available within the state through good intra-district and inter-district distribution, the statement said.

According to the ministry, the urea need for the 2022 rabi season is expected to be 180.18 lakh tonne. The pro rata requirement up to November 16 was 57.40 lakh tonne, against which the government has guaranteed 92.54 lakh tonne of availability.
During this time, urea sales totaled 38.43 lakh tonnes. Furthermore, the states had a closing stock of 54.11 lakh tonnes. It also states that there is a 1.05 lakh tonne stock at urea factories and a 5.03 lakh tonne stock at ports to meet demand.

According to the ministry, the expected demand for di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) for the rabi season is 55.38 lakh tonne. Up until November 16, the pro rata need was 26.98 lakh tonne, and the ministry has promised that 36.90 lakh tonne will be available.

During this time, DAP sales totaled 24.57 lakh tonnes. Furthermore, the states have a closing stock of 12.33 LMT. Furthermore, there is a stock of 0.51 lakh tonnes in DAP factories and 4.51 lakh tonnes at ports to meet demand.

Similarly, the predicted requirement for Muriate of Potash (MoP) for the rabi season is 14.35 lakh tonnes. Up to November 16, the government has guaranteed an availability of 8.04 lakh tonne against a pro-rata requirement of 5.28 lakh tonne.

During this time period, MOP sales totaled 3.01 lakh tonne, with a closing stock of 5.03 lakh tonne in the states. Furthermore, there is a supply of 1.17 lakh tonne at ports to meet the demand for MOP.

The expected requirement for NPKS fertilizers for the rabi season is 56.97 lakh tonnes. The pro rata requirement up to November 16 was 20.12 lakh tonne, for which the ministry has guaranteed 40.76 lakh tonne availability.

NPKS sales totaled 15.99 lakh tonne throughout this time period. Furthermore, there is a closing stock of 24.77 lakh tonne in the states, 1.24 lakh tonne at plants, and 2.93 lakh tonne at ports to meet demand.

For the rabi season, the expected demand for Single Super Phosphate (SSP) is 33.64 lakh tonne. The pro rata requirement up to November 16 was 14.05 lakh tonne, against which the ministry has guaranteed 24.79 lakh tonne availability.

During this time, SSP sales totaled 9.25 lakh tonne. Furthermore, the states have a closing stock of 15.54 lakh tonne. There is also a stockpile of 1.65 lakh tonne at factories to meet demand.

‘As a result, the supply of urea, DAP, MOP, NPKS, and SSP fertilizers in the country is adequate to meet rabi season needs,’ the ministry stated.

Rabi (winter) crops like as wheat, gramme, and mustard are currently being sown. According to government data, total coverage for all rabi crops was 268.80 lakh hectare on November 18 of current rabi season, up from 250.76 lakh hectare the previous year.
