In a meeting with officials from the FCS&CA, Agriculture and Revenue Departments, as well as procurement agencies, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged agencies such as FCI, AFCSCL, NAFED, NACOF, NCCF, and ASAMB to scale up steps for paddy purchase in the state.

The Assam government has set a target of purchasing 10 lakh million tones of paddy at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) from farmers in order to provide significant financial assistance to farmers and make agriculture more economically viable.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the actions performed by the State government departments and procurement agencies, as well as the problems they experienced, and issued directives to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit from this effort.

Easy registration process

The Assam Chief Minister requested that farmers register at the procurement website in order to streamline and expedite paddy purchases. Furthermore, in order to address any difficulties raised by farmers during registration, Sarma asked FCS&CA and Agriculture Department staff to conduct extensive field visits and assist farmers. He also requested that the Revenue Department give the appropriate instructions to expedite the issuance of land-related certificates, allowing more farmers to register on the website.

Sarma urged the Agricultural Development Officers to conduct broad publicity and sensitize farmers about the purchase effort, emphasizing the need to raise more awareness among farmers about the procurement initiative.

In addition, after examining the actions performed by the paddy procurement agencies, the Chief Minister directed them to open more Paddy Purchase Centres and conduct joint procurement drives in collaboration with agriculture and the FCS&CA Department.

Sarma further emphasized the importance of moving quickly and working together with the FCS&CA, Agriculture, and Revenue Departments to meet the procurement target on time.
